MAX DINGLI

Role: Stefan Bugeja (Steve Bulge)
Where do we know you from?
If you do know me, I’d be quite flattered actually... Singing is what you may have seen/heard me do. I’ve participated in 8 years of Voices concerts, used to sing in an a cappella quartet called Akaphellas and now sing in my band, Shilloo’s Tree, which you might have heard on the radio/TV/live. If you’re my neighbour, then I’m the annoying voice that you hear every time I have a shower.
How similar are you to your character?
A naive, wholesome young Maltese man who secretly yearns to become a pornographic actor... I was born to be Stefan! Except for the porn thingy, that is. In fact, Stefan is a guy who is generally content with his lot in life, but tries to improve things. He’s also quite shy, but can break out of his shell if the opportunity arises. I suppose I can identify with that quite a bit.
Why should people come and watch ‘Porn’?
The music is fantastic, the plot is suitably cheesy but sweet, the situations are funny and everyone is (nearly) always smiling. The whole play is as wholesome as can be, notwithstanding its dodgy subject matter, and the cast are fantastic. Although mostly made up of relative unknowns in the theatre world, the casting was terrific and I often find myself thinking of my co-actors in terms of their character rather than their real-life persona. Anyway, do you really need more reasons to watch Porn?
If you were a porn star, what would your name be?
Algusto DiPesca
(It’s said that your porn name is your first pet’s name combined with your mother’s maiden name, but Grillu Borg Costanzi just doesn’t have the same ring to it.) |

SUZANNE WADGE

Role: Sanddy
Where do we know you from?
You might have seen me at: Teatru unplugged, Voices, singing around at hotels, bars, cafes, weddings, performing with Funkool (fusion band) or with the New Harmonics.
How similar are you to your character?
I’m also a hopeless romantic, although not quite a double D.
Why should people come and watch ‘Porn’?
It’s truly original – witty dialogue combined with music that will blow you away! Not to be missed… Hilarious!
If you were a porn star, what would your name be?
Sultry Suzie

Role: Mr. Martin Scoresleazy
Where do we know you from?
I’m actually a classical baritone and have been studying with Mro. Brian Cefai for the last eight years. Two years ago I played the part of Sarastro in The Magic Flute at the Manoel Theatre.
How similar are you to your character?
The Italian accent perhaps! Actually there isn’t really any similarity between my character and Martin Scoresleazy – but having said that, I’m really enjoying it as I’m playing someone who’s totally different from me.
Why should people come and watch ‘Porn’?
They should come to the show because, as my character would say; it’s gonna to be the best friggin’ musical ever!
If you were a porn star, what would your name be?

DAVID ELLUL

|
 |
Role: Dr. Johnny Long
Where do we know you from?
While in Malta, I’ve mostly been playing a lot of live solo shows – just me and my guitar. When I'm in Canada, I pretty much do the same thing. Oh, people might also know me from Youtube, or from playing poker, or skating around the island at three in the morning, or maybe even from my website
How similar are you to your character?
Character? I'm playing a character? No one said anything about acting! I thought I was hired for my singing and my PHD.
Why should people come and watch ‘Porn’?
Because I'm in it. Ok, ok... For just two minutes I'll not be Dr. Johnny Long. Why come? Because it's freaking hilarious! Because the musicians, writers, and cast are so good that I feel humbled and honoured at the same time to be working with them. Because if I keep stroking everyone's ego like this, well... ahh.. ahh... ahh.... you get the idea.
If you were a porn star, what would your name be?
David Ellul. No, really. Or just Dellul. I found out while playing one of my solo shows here that my name means very porn related things when speaking in Dutch. Ahh... I could have so much fun on stage while in Holland. Hey, is this why I was hired?

TONI ATTARD
 |
 |
Role: Haven’t got one but in show business I hear they call him an extra. In Maltese, il-bidillu, il-polifiler or il-pastaz. In porn he’s known as the Miscellaneous Man.
Where do we know you from?
Well nobody really knows who I am. If you’re expecting some impressive CV forget it because otherwise I wouldn’t be in this show. However, some may know me from other performances by Aleateia Theatre Group or Agamemnon by Anon or Mercury Fur by Unifaun theatre. Some may also know me from some TV drama appearances and others may have actually survived working with me on a number of other artistic projects.
How similar are you to your character?
Will you please stop making fun of me? I DO NOT have a character in this musical so this question is irrelevant. But yes I am a miscellaneous man too.
Why should people come and watch ‘Porn’?
Because this is the only porn you can ever watch in the company of family and friends without ever being called a pervert. It’s also the only porn where the climax is in the story and the throat action is in the singing. It’s cheesy and silly but great fun!

TRINITY FAVA

Role: Jade – the slutty fiancée
Where do we know you from?
People may have seen pictures of me stuck on the back of a bus, pasted onto a billboard or published in a magazine, since I have been photo modelling for quite some time, compiling a substantial portfolio from local and also overseas engagements. Otherwise you might have heard my voice on the radio or during a concert or stage-show. Definitely one to mention would be my very first appearance before a large audience at the 2001 Heineken Jammin Festival, in which I had done the vocals for a song produced by the local duo U-Bahn. Being in the same changing room with artists such as Fragma and ATB was a dream come true. Other performances include Voices, singing Mozart’s Requiem in the enchanting Palermo cathedral with the Amadeus Chamber Choir, forming part of the Drama Centre Choir, being part of ActREACT’s AbbaEsque and also taking the lead role of Madonna in the musical produced by Loui Noir.
How similar are you to your character?
Would Zero fit in a scale of 1 to10? I would not be proud to sing “So young and yet so slutty” in my everyday life but that’s the whole thrill of it all. For me to be chosen as the baddie, or bitch, of the show, is an exciting challenge which I relish, because I have to adopt personality that is completely to mine. I hope you can still love me at the end of it all.
Why should people come and watch ‘Porn’?
Now that I know what it is all about I see Porn the Musical as a cartoon for adults, with all the required ingredients – such as having the main, naïve actor, the baddie, the goodie, the funny, among other, included. The music is very well written and the musicians, actors, singers and supporting staff are all up for it to make for an excellent production. To me it is a great mix of good music and good laughs; in fact just up my street. Who wouldn’t want to come and watch an original production and support local talent anyway?
If you were a porn star, what would your name be?
I guess I would go for a cute name such as Belle or Crystal.

MALCOLM GALEA
|
 |
Role: The Narrator
Where do we know you from?
Some of my favourite theatre roles include Abel Drugger in Unifaun’s The Alchemist, for Masquerade, Father Flynn in Doubt, Cliff Bradshaw in Cabaret, the Narrator in The Rocky Horror Show (a role that I shall be sort of reprising for Porn), and for the MADC, Dave Shepherd in Audacity, Bassanio in The Merchant of Venice, and Dame Frida in the pantomime Cinderella.
My work on film includes such roles as Sinon in Helen of Troy, St Andrew in The Miracles of Jesus, and Carlo in the Polish crime series Kryminalni. My characters on local TV include Henry Seguna in Viva l-Ministru, Edward on It-Tmien Nota, and Ray Gauci in the sitcom L-Erbgha l’Huma which I also wrote and directed. I’ve been presenting on radio for thirteen years and I currently co-host the Breakfast Show on Xfm.
How similar are you to your character?
The Narrator is a bit of a smart-arse so no difference there. He is also telling his story directly to the audience. I find this arrangement very satisfactory since it really is my story.
Why should people come and watch ‘Porn’?
Porn is going to be a completely original and absolutely fantastic show that is locally created. It will make for a really fun evening and many good belly laughs. Then, when you leave, you can take the memory of the music with you to keep you smiling for ages. What more excuses do you need?

ANGELE GALEA

Artistic Director
|
 |
Angele Galea is perhaps better known for her work on TV and stage as a presenter and actor. Others might also know her as a classical pianist, but Angele also enjoys dabbling in paint every now and then. Angele improved her technique and style under the tuition of Joseph Paul Cassar, Jessica Debattista, Isabelle Borg and Frans Galea and she has taken part in various programmes from painting for charity with Kerygma in 1991, to painting murals for government schools and public places.
In 1998, Angele did the ink drawings for the inaugural exhibition Art in Malta Today, the workbook for children. In 2002/03 she did comic strips for Tune In Magazine for Bay Radio and the official Bay Radio Calendar of 2003 turning each DJ into a cartoon character.
Angele Galea took part in various collective exhibitions such as Ecological Feelings (2000, Royal British Legion), Member Artists Exhibition (2002, National Museum of Fine Arts), Core Green (2008, Melita Gardens), Colours for Children (2008, Chamber of Commerce), Education and Culture (2008, European Union Programmes Agency) and this September her first solo exhibition Pin Ups, Playing Cards and Magazines (Ta’ Stringi). Her latest endevour was the shadow puppetry for the Manoel Theatre Pantomime 2008/09, with her own music composition creating the atmosphere as the velvety tones of Manuel Cauchi recounted the story of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Her style is quite varied and incorporates varied media and techniques. She inspires herself from the people she meets, the magazines and TV programs she comes across and, when all else fails, she resorts to our breathtaking landscape with its sparkling beauty especially at nighttime. |
