KRIS SPITERI

Kris Spiteri

Kris has been studying the piano since the age of nine and by the time he was fourteen he was performing in local venues all over the island, as well as on TV and radio.  He acquired a B.A. Hons in music studies in 2003, specialising in Performance under the direction of Prof. Michael Laus, and also obtained the PGCE degree in Music Education.  Even though Kris has played with several rock bands, including such bands as Syndrome and Quicksand, his main love is for jazz music.  In 2004 the Edward Debono foundation gave him the opportunity to attend the jazz course at Canford Summer School of Music in England.  In July 2005 he attended the Berklee Summer School in collaboration with Umbria Jazz Clinics.  In the same year he was commissioned by St James Cavalier to compose seven non-religious pieces inspired by the last seven words of Jesus Christ.  The work was performed in the Passiontide Festival of that same year and repeated in 2006.  Kris was also one of the Maltese artists to play in the Malta Jazz Festival 2006, performing some of his original works along with the band Noir.  Kris has also released the singles Deflower me from Society and Merry-go-round as a solo artist, and currently performs with Rug and the Residents.  Additionally, Kris is also a director of Tunin’ Entertainment; an agency that provides entertainment for all types of events such as weddings and corporate functions.
